Behind the designs
This ensemble explores the theme of the crossover between 1900s military uniforms and contemporary streetwear, drawing on inspiration from the military uniforms worn in the First World War. This design challenges conventional fashion norms by merging aspects from both historical eras and contemporary modern trends, creating a visual dialogue between utilitarian functionality and aesthetic trends within modern fashion.
Through the use of upcycled tailored mens wear, the garments that make up this ensemble show both their past life as a tailored suit and their new life as utilitarian streetwear. Materials within the ensemble consist of mostly wool and polyester satin, emphasizing their connection to both military uniforms and tailored menswear.
Details such as the cargo pockets, zips, and the detachable element of the trousers all contribute to the overall look and feel of this collaboration of military uniform, tailored menswear and modern streetwear. These work together to embed the narrative within the design, that everything can have a second life if used in certain ways. In this case, that is the mens suits that were donated to a local op shop that were then used to create and construct this ensemble.

By utilising repurposed suits for this ensemble, it is both a work of sustainable practice and a blend of utilitarian concepts with contemporary elements.
