Designing chest binders for the community was for sure a challenge. Working with Gender Dynamix in Tauranga, I collaborated with a range of individuals that gave a range of feedback on style, material and comfort. In the end this was the overall design that became the final product, now shipped and worn all across Aotearoa. Working for an organisation at first gave me the chance to test patterns and materials with the same individuals that would end up wearing the final product. This resulted in genuine feedback and a comparison to other garments that are on the market. Taking the different feedback from each individual and finding a median that pleased each of them was long process but in the end, almost everyone who has ordered and worn one of the binders I designed has been extremely happy with it, some even ordering multiple times.
